Sports Injury Rehabilitation in Singapore
A sports injury interrupts more than your training — it gets in the way of the routines and goals that keep you moving. At the Centre for Advanced Rehabilitation (CARe), our AHPC-registered physiotherapists and occupational therapists assess your injury, build a progressive rehabilitation plan and guide your return to sport in structured, sensible stages.
Sports injury rehabilitation at CARe
Whether you picked up a strain in a weekend game, an overuse injury from marathon training or a setback in the gym, the goal of rehabilitation is the same: recover well and return to your sport with confidence. At the Centre for Advanced Rehabilitation (CARe), our AHPC-registered physiotherapists and occupational therapists provide assessment and structured rehabilitation for sports injuries at two Singapore clinics. Our approach is conservative and movement-based — we do not perform surgery, injections or imaging.
How we approach sports injury rehabilitation
Assessment first
Your therapist will assess the injured area and how you move as a whole, and will ask about your sport, training load and goals. Understanding what led to the injury — technique, training spikes, previous injuries — helps shape a plan that addresses causes, not just symptoms.
Manual therapy and sports massage
Hands-on treatment and sports massage are used to ease muscle tension, support mobility and help you move more comfortably in the early stages of rehabilitation.
Shockwave and other pain-relief modalities
For tendon-related overuse injuries, shockwave therapy may be recommended where appropriate. CARe also offers physical agent modalities including therapeutic ultrasound, TENS, NMES and heat or cold therapy to support pain management and recovery.
Progressive strengthening and reconditioning
Rehabilitation is built around a progressive exercise programme: restoring movement first, then rebuilding strength, control and capacity in the injured tissue and the areas around it, so you are prepared for the demands of your sport rather than just pain-free at rest.
Load management and return-to-activity planning
Your therapist will help you plan how to keep training around the injury where possible, and how to build back up in sensible stages. The aim is a structured return to activity guided by how your body responds, rather than an all-or-nothing approach.
Taping and support
Sports and functional taping can provide short-term support and confidence as you return to training and play.
What sports injury rehabilitation can help with
Rehabilitation at CARe may help with a range of sports-related problems, including:
- Muscle strains and tears
- Mild to moderate ligament sprains
- Tendon-related and overuse injuries, such as tennis elbow
- Stiffness and weakness after an injury or a period away from sport
- Reconditioning before returning to training or competition
If you suspect a fracture or dislocation, if the joint gave way with rapid swelling, or if you cannot put weight on the injured limb, please seek medical attention first — rehabilitation can begin once serious injury has been assessed.
What to expect at your appointment
Your first session covers a detailed assessment of the injury and your training history, followed by an agreed rehabilitation plan. Sessions combine hands-on treatment, suitable modalities and progressive exercise, and your therapist will explain the reasoning behind each stage.
Training at home and between sessions
You will receive a structured home programme so rehabilitation continues between visits, with clear guidance on what to do, how often, and what to adjust if symptoms flare.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to stop training completely while I recover?
Not always. In many cases you can keep training in a modified way while the injured area is rehabilitated, and staying active often supports recovery. Your therapist will advise what to continue, what to adapt and what to pause, based on your assessment.
Do I need a scan or a doctor's referral before coming in?
No referral or imaging is required to book an assessment at CARe. If you already have scans or a specialist letter, bring them along. If your assessment suggests a serious injury that needs medical review, your therapist will let you know and point you in the right direction.
Can you help with an old injury that never fully recovered?
Yes — longstanding injuries and recurring niggles can still be assessed and worked on. Treatment usually focuses on rebuilding strength and capacity in the affected area, and outcomes vary from person to person depending on the injury and how it responds to loading.
