Back Pain Physiotherapy in Singapore

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek rehabilitation care. Whether it has built up gradually from long hours at a desk or come on after a strain, persistent back pain can affect how you move, work and sleep. At the Centre for Advanced Rehabilitation (CARe), our AHPC-registered physiotherapists and occupational therapists provide assessment and treatment to help you manage back pain and restore comfortable movement.

Physiotherapy for back pain at CARe

CARe is a Singapore rehabilitation clinic founded in 2023, with two locations and a team of AHPC-registered physiotherapists and occupational therapists. We take an evidence-based, hands-on approach to back pain, combining manual treatment with personalised exercise. We do not perform surgery, injections or imaging — our focus is conservative, movement-based care that helps you understand your back pain and work towards lasting improvement. You can see the full range of what we offer on our services page.

How we approach back pain

Assessment first

Every treatment plan starts with a thorough assessment. Your therapist will take your history, look at how you move, and identify the factors contributing to your pain — from posture and daily habits to muscle strength and joint mobility. This shapes a plan built around your goals, not a one-size-fits-all routine.

Hands-on (manual) therapy and sports massage

Manual therapy and sports massage are used to ease muscle tension, improve mobility and support more comfortable movement around the affected areas of your back.

Dry needling

Where appropriate, dry needling may be used to help release tight muscles and manage pain. Several therapists on our team are trained in dry needling, and it is always applied as part of a wider treatment plan.

Physical agent modalities for pain relief

CARe offers a range of physical agent modalities that can support pain relief and recovery, including therapeutic ultrasound, TENS, NMES, shockwave therapy, and heat or cold therapy. Your therapist will recommend only what is suitable for your situation.

Personalised exercise and strengthening

Exercise is central to recovering from back pain and reducing the chance of it returning. Your therapist will design a personalised exercise and strengthening programme to improve the support, mobility and control around your back, and progress it as you improve.

Taping, ergonomics and chronic-pain approaches

Depending on your needs, your plan may also include sports and functional taping, an ergonomics consult to address how you sit and work, and — for longer-standing pain — chronic-pain approaches offered by therapists on our team.

What back pain treatment can help with

Treatment at CARe may help with a range of general back-pain presentations, including:

  • General lower back pain
  • Muscle strain and tension in the back
  • Postural and work-related back pain, for example from prolonged sitting
  • General chronic back pain

Every back is different, and the right approach depends on your assessment. You can read more about the conditions we see at CARe. If your back pain is severe, came on after a significant injury, or is accompanied by symptoms such as numbness, weakness or loss of bladder or bowel control, please seek medical attention promptly.

What to expect at your appointment

At your first appointment, your therapist will assess your back and discuss your symptoms, your daily activities and what you want to get back to. Together you will agree on a treatment plan. Sessions typically combine hands-on treatment, any suitable pain-relief modalities, and exercises you can build into your day. Your therapist will explain what they are doing and why, so you stay informed and in control of your care.

Home therapy and continuing your programme

Progress between sessions matters. CARe provides home therapy support, and your therapist will give you a clear home exercise programme to continue your recovery and help maintain your results over time.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a doctor's referral for back pain treatment?

No — you can book an appointment with CARe directly. If you have recent scans or a doctor's letter, bring them along; they help your therapist understand your history.

Will physiotherapy get rid of my back pain?

Treatment aims to help you manage pain, move more comfortably and build strength to support your back. Outcomes vary from person to person, which is why we start with an assessment and set realistic, personalised goals with you.

Which clinic should I visit?

Both CARe @ Camden and CARe @ Parkway offer treatment for back pain. Choose whichever is more convenient — you can let us know your preference when booking.
