Liying is a highly experienced hand occupational therapist with over a decade of clinical expertise in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. She specialises in wrist ligament rehabilitation, as well as the management of complex hand, wrist, and upper limb conditions.

 

Liying began her academic journey at Nanyang Polytechnic, graduating with a Diploma in Occupational Therapy with merit in 2012, before obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy with First Class Honours from Trinity College Dublin. She further advanced her qualifications with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Tufts University, along with an advanced professional certificate in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. Her training included an internship at the renowned Massachusetts General Hospital Hand and Arm Center.

Liying has built her clinical career at the National University Hospital (NUH), where she developed deep expertise in treating a wide range of upper limb conditions. Her areas of specialisation include wrist ligament injuries, fractures, tendon injuries, repetitive strain injuries, and compression neuropathies, as well as complex cases such as tendon transfers, replantations, thoracic outlet syndrome, and brachial plexus injuries. She is particularly recognised for her work in wrist ligament rehabilitation and post-operative care, including flexor tendon repairs and elbow instability, where she has contributed to the development of innovative, evidence-based rehabilitation protocols.

In addition to her clinical work, Liying has a strong interest in work rehabilitation, return-to-work programmes, and ergonomic assessments. Her commitment to excellence was recognised in 2022 when she received the NUHS Allied Health Commendation Award.

Liying is also actively involved in research and education. Since 2016, she has presented at international conferences and has mentored numerous occupational therapy students, contributing to the development of future clinicians. In recognition of her contributions to clinical education, she was awarded the SAOT-SIT ICE GEM Award by the Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists in 2023.

Known for her warm and approachable nature, Liying is dedicated to delivering patient-centred, holistic care. She takes the time to understand each client’s goals and designs personalised rehabilitation programmes to restore hand and wrist function, improve strength and mobility, and support recovery from wrist ligament injuries and other upper limb conditions. Her treatment approach incorporates advanced techniques such as therapeutic modalities, kinesiotaping, and joint mobilisation where appropriate.
